SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2017 Highlights

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2017, the acclaimed event that fuses leadership, engineering, innovation, and deal-making that power the technological future of broadband telecommunications ended last Thursday.  

The expo was held at the Colorado Convention Center and featured more than  400 booths– including 75 first-time exhibitors.  22% of the 8,800 registered attendees came from countries outside of the United States, and 19% of the registered total were first-time attendees. This serves as an accurate indication of the Expo’s international growth!

The General Session opened with a keynote conversation with Mike Fries, CEO of Liberty Global, and closed with remarks by Tom Rutledge, Chairman and CEO, of Charter Communications. The session also included incisive comments from the Cable-Tec Expo 2017 Program Committee co-chairs.

Later that day, the International Society of Broadband Experts presented the member of the year award, which was given to Ed Marchetti, Comcast, during the traditional lunch. Dave Fellows and Ricky Lucke were also announced as new members of the hall of fame.

For two years running, the Innovation Theater was the transformation hub to watch demos and showcases from the future.

For those interested in the latest options for virtualizing the cable architecture, Light Reading hosted a special power breakfast forum on “Virtualizing the Cable Architecture.”

Steve Marsh, Intraway’s North America CTO, joined John Dickinson, Vice President Advanced Commercial Engineering, Charter Communications, and Jeff Finkelstein, Executive Director of Advanced Technology, Cox Communications, among other key players in the industry.

Intraway’s VIP Hockey Night

The second day of the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo ended with an off-site invitation from Intraway to watch an ice hockey match where the St. Louis Blues defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 at Pepsi Center. It was a formidable show, with ongoing on-screen animations and interaction with the audience.
